VENTILATION
Ventilation Requirements
Many older buildings naturally provide suf昀椀cient ventilation through air leakage to support the safe
operation of appliances with a heat output of 5kW or less.
However, modern construction techniques signi昀椀cantly reduce air leakage. Homes with air tightness
levels below 5m³ per hour per m² require an air vent for all solid fuel appliances, including those with a
heat output of less than 5kW.
NOTE: Modern homes are tested for air leakage at the completion of construction, and a certi昀椀cate
con昀椀rming the results is issued.
Appliance Air Supply Requirements:
This appliance requires a continuous supply of air for proper combustion and effective 昀氀ue performance.
Insuf昀椀cient air supply can lead to poor combustion, potentially causing dangerous smoke and gases, such
as carbon monoxide, to enter the room.
Air supply can be provided through:

Purpose-designed ventilation systems.
•
An optional outdoor air kit, which allows the appliance to draw air directly from outside.
The air supply must comply with local building regulations. If vents open into adjoining rooms or spaces,
an additional vent of at least equal size must lead directly to the outside.
Vents should be positioned to avoid discomfort from cold draughts, such as near ceilings or close to the
appliance itself.
Additional Considerations:

Extractor fans, cooker hoods, and other heating devices in the same room or space as the appliance
may disrupt air昀氀ow. Extra ventilation should be provided based on the speci昀椀c requirements of the
appliance.
•
The appliance should not be installed with ventilation systems operating at pressures below -15Pa.
•
For rooms containing multiple appliances, increased air supply provisions must be made.
Installation Checks:
Thorough checks must be conducted before installation. If any issues, such as negative pressure or
insuf昀椀cient ventilation, are identi昀椀ed, they must be resolved before proceeding with the appliance 昀椀tting.
